A prospective observational study to evaluate prevalence of asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy

Background: Asymptomatic bacteriuria is under-diagnosed condition in pregnancy. Prompt recognition of asymptomatic and its treatment necessary as this can be associated with adverse maternal foetal complications. Screening easy replicable goes a long way promoting safer outcomes. The aim the study was to determine (a) prevalence pregnant women attending antenatal care association age, parity socio-economic status, (b) microbiological patterns causative organism.Methods: This prospective, observational that evaluated 200 visiting tertiary hospital, SS Institute Medical Sciences Research Centre, Davangere, India. A conducted Department Obstetrics Gynecology. Subjects having fever, symptoms urinary tract infection, underlying co-morbid conditions were excluded from study. Those willing give valid consent no signs infection included study.Results: noted 19% our most common organism cause E. coli followed by Staphylococcus aureus. highest second trimester those first trimester.Conclusions: widely prevalent Pregnant should screened every for presence bacteriuria.
